Handmade Medium Sakabukuro Tote Bag
by Lambert 14.5" wide x 13" tall (without the straps). The 2" wide straps extend 9" from the bag. Large enough for a day trip or to carry your everyday basics.
It is made with an early 20th century Japanese sakabukuro (Those cotton bags were used to filter raw sake and would end up dyed in a beautiful brown color leached from the persimmon tanning.) They are extremely rare and collectible.
This bag is completely hand assembled, no machine was used, the real handmade deal. It shows very little signs of wear for such an old fabric, the overall look is sturdy, organic like an modern day heirloom. There are some mended patches which you can see on the photos. The color is amazing like only a natural dye can produce. The lining is made of linen canvas in a flax/natural color. The straps are made of webbing.
There are two inside pockets, one made of the same sake fabric and closing with a shell button and is a roomy 8.5" x 8". The other one made of linen is 5.5" x 7", perfect for the cell phone!
Handmade in Brooklyn, NY.
