NOT THE SAME OLD YARN.
LOS ANGELES, December. 09, 2009 /www.newhighmart.com/ -- Wool and The Gang, the DIY knitwear phenomenon, make their exclusive West Coast debut at New High (M)art with an in-store appearance and opening reception, Saturday, December 12th, 2009, from 6―9 p.m.
On the heels of their successful launch at Colette in Paris and the November ribbon-cutting of their flagship studio in NYC's SoHo, the International-based knitting insurgency invade Los Angeles with their unconventional ready-to-knit kits, colorful Peruvian skeins of "Crazy Sexy Wool," "Sugar Baby Alpaca" and "Shiny Happy Cotton," plus a collection of pre-knitted, limited edition seasonal pieces for the needle-aversive.
With projects that range from "easy" to "experienced" and can't-wait-to-wear-it designs to motivate completion, the once tightly-knit community of yarn masters is now open to anyone who gives a darn. Just in time for the holidays, a Wool and The Gang kit comes smartly packaged and branded so it looks as fetching under the tree as it will once you wear it.
Available styles include crop sweaters, snoods, slouch beanies, pocket scarves, shoulder wings, braided vests, headbands, fingerless gloves, leg/arm warmers, fringe bags and more. All kits include everything you need to get your knit on. Spare wooden needles and yarn are also available.
The event includes a designer meet-and-greet, helpful pointers and first-come-first-served access to all limited items.
Rocking chair not included.

MM6 BY MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA COLLECTION AND BOOK
Arrived and on the floor. One of the first things we pursued once we knew we'd have a permanent sales floor in the new location was this line and it makes us incredible happy to have it as part of the NH(M) family. We're truly honored.
Also, in now is the Rizzoli published book Martin Margiela, Self-titled. This linen-bound, hardcover selection is the first to document the work of the famed Paris-based fashion designer.
Currently these items are in-store only with web to follow so stay tuned.
Here's a few images, but you really must see in person:

DVCou2re
A dark presence in the new space can be felt by the design twosome from D.F. called DVCou2re. Their prolific output of one-off contraptions are all show-stoppers and are all equally at home on a stage, in front of a camera or in a sex bunker.
A favorite of many stylists, these tend to barely hit the floor before they're pulled and subsequently bought so we're doing our best to grab quick images as they arrive.
Some Selects:

Objets d'(M)art
In our new space we have a separate room that we can use for retail installments in much the same tradition as our previous store in its entirety. Currently we're showcasing a project called "Objets d'(M)art" which is basically a curated dollar store in concept and execution. Think of it as a "Best of the Less" if you will. The inspiration came as an homage to our previous location downtown and its proximity to all the import discount stores we used reliably. It's a "you can take the store out of Chinatown, but you can't take the Chinatown out of the store" kinda thing.
We filled this room with products rescued from closeout warehouses, neighborhood bodegas, and actual 99 cent stores around the globe. The room is stocked with the practical and the peculiar, including flyswatters (Mexico), vegetable peelers (Japan) nutcrackers (Germany), Lightbulbs (Poland), doormats (China), and more. Not just anything of course, just the good stuff.... you know how we do.
The response so far has been tremendous so this installment will be running long into the future. We really appreciate the contrast of like somebody purchasing a $500 leather Margiela bag -- and a scrub brush. Amazing!

The new space employs ceiling-to-floor pegboard which allows us to display everything face-out, gallery-style which is really fun to dress. The fixtures are all handmade and often use readily-available building materials, reclaimed elements or rely on inventive solutions. There is a large custom-made clear acrylic readerboard that serves as a way to communicate the current roster of lines on the floor and a runway-esque dressing room with enough room to do your walk and turn in whatever you're trying on! Other branding elements include a handmade readerboard sandwich board and engraved nameplates throughout the store representing sections or designers.
